Ancient Spalding "Deed" dated Last Sunday before Feast of St. Luke's in 11th year of Reign of King Edward II, son of King Edward I, 1318 A.D. :
"Know all men present and futhere that we, Hervey Chapman of Flitcham, and Fina, my wife, have given, granted and by this our present deed have confirmed unto Ralph Spalding, same town, one messuage and one acre and half an acre of land, said messuage lying at Gatton nr the messuage of William, son of Roger Gabriel, towards the west and on the north abutting on the common pasture. Witnesses: Roger baronn, vincnet Bone, John Fater, John Adam, Roger de Satden, Alan limel, Philip Schirreve and others.
