Chronology of Dawson-Smith-Jump Families of Maryland & Delaware 1735-1832

Note: Tracts in Chronology were located om Dorchester Co., Md., until 1767 when the Mason-Dixon Line was drawn between Maryland & Delaware. Land on the borders of eastern Dorchester County became part of western Kent and Sussex Co, Delaware. Marshyhope Creek in colonial deeds was known as Northwest Fork of the Nanticoke River. Headwaters of Marshyhope Creek are in Delaware at the junction of Marshyhope Ditch & Horsepen Arm. Marshyhope Creek flows s.s.w. into Maryland and joins the Nanticoke about 14 miles n.w. of Salisbury, Md. Lineage for three families, therefore, are in Dorchester Co MD, Sussex Co DE, & Kent Co DE records. For reference purposes, each document has a numerical entry number.

Richard Dawson & Sarah his wife of Dor Co to Levin Smith, Dor Co planter, "Addition to Hobsons Choice" on n.w. side Bright's Old Field on e. side NW Fork of Nanticoke River. 50 a., once part of "Hobsons Choice" 150 a. [12]  November 9, 1756 to November 7, 1760. Dor Co Commission to set boundaries of land of John Dawson, son of Richard Dawson, called "Addition to Timber Tree Neck," adj. "Wales." Isaac Brown, age 45, mentions his father John Brown, now dec'd, who 2 yrs ago said   boundary tree of "Wales" was over the swamp which lies between John Brown's dwelling plantation & Joseph Brown's now plantation. Margaret White, age 18. William Smith, age 37, said boundary tree on John Brown's land shown to him about 14 yrs ago by Chas. McKeel. [13]  October 28, 1760. Dor Co MD Deed. William Dawson, Dor Co planter, to Alexander Frazier, same co planter, "Fortune" (except what is taken away by original survey of "Goose Pond") in freshes of Dor Co granted on  August 9, 1744, to John Dawson. 50 a. [Dor Co Old Deed Bk 17:206]

Richard Dawson, planter, to his son John Dawson, same co planter, "Black Level Englarged" granted to said Richard Dawson for 250 a. located on n. side Kirks Branch and east side NW Fork Nanticoke River; also "Miles Swamp" granted to said Richqrd on n. side of Kirks Branch, except 96 a. laid out by Richard Dawson for Roger Wright; Richard Dawson retains a life interest in said lands.
