CHURCHES OF MARYLAND AND KENTUCKY
Christ Church, Chaptico, Maryland
The bounds & limits of St. Maries County Parishes laid out the 5th day of September Anno Dom 1692 by virtue of a late act of Assembly thereunto directing as follows: the lower being called William & Mary Parish and the upper by King & Queen Parish.
In the quiet village of Chaptico stands this small church of red brick with Flemish bond & glazed headers. The first church was built in 1642; King & Queen Parish was established in 1692. The present church was built in 1736, with the addition of the tower in 1913. Christ Church Cemetery is the resting place of members of the Maddox family of Charles County. Maddox family is commemorated in a stained glass window along the west wall. The old church has survived down through the years in spite of the many troubles & storms it has weathered. The church is the nucleus of the historic village of Chaptico, a picturesque little group of old homes and stores which still hold their 18th century charm. A few miles south is the tiny hamlet of Maddox; Green Springs Farm c1665 just down the road unfortunately burned, so nothing remains of Maddox manor.

Mt. Zion Methodist Church, Bracken County, Kentucky
Within these gates our Dawson and Redden ancestors are buried. The old churchyard has a neglected yet serene air as if the people within are resting till Gabriel's trumpet sounds. Once the wrought iron fence with its graceful swirls spoke of pride of heritage. Today, Mt. Zion's ME Church with its "English Cemetery" is no longer used, but is well-kept by former church members. Daniel Dawson's once proud tombstone is cracked in two and tilts precariously against a marble base. Someday, it too will be gone.
Great-great-grandfather Rev. Daniel Dawson, a Christian Unity minister in later life, shelters close by the east wall where the rising sun reflects through Gothic windows the peace & inner light of Heaven.
