Talbot County Maryland: Early Land Records of Dawson &
Allied Families
"Land records were abstracted from colonial deed books at Talbot Co. Courthouse, Clerk of Court's Office, in exact chronological order. Land Record Vol. I is a copy made from an earlier record with obvious variations in surname spellings. Variant spelling of surnames is noted in the "Index" of each volume of Talbot Co. Land Records. Tract names may be spelled differently within the same deed, as well as from deed to deed: 1662-1712.
In 1662, Talbot County encompassed all of present day Talbot, plus Queen Anne County, and western section of present Caroline County lying in the Fork of Tuckahoe Creek and Choptank River. It is evident 1662 boundaries were not clearly defined for many years as there are deeds for sale of property as far north as "north side of Chester River," and as far south and east as the Nanticoke & Little Choptank in Dorchester County."
