Zebdial Dawson (d. 1819) Sussex County Delaware Probate 1819-1831

In the name of God Amen, I, Zebedial Dawson, of the county of Sussex & state of Delaware being weak of body but perfect of mind & memory...and touching such worldly esate with it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give devise & dispose of the same in the following manner & form...

I give & bequeath to my beloved wife Prudence Dawson two acres of land & to have a house built for her by my executor in some convenient place & where it will be the least damage to the farm from renting & to have privilege of fire wood & pasture for cow & calf, and one bed & furniture her choice, and one iron pot & one bake kettle & frying pan & four chairs & ten pewter plates & one earthen dish & one set of china cups & saucers & coffee pot & one cow & calf & to have $40 per year during her widowhood, and to hold none of the property no longer when her widowhood & no more of my estate.

Item: I give & beq. to my daughter Sarah Shaw in Philadelphia $40 per year for twelve years to be pd by my executor each & every year and no more of my estate.

Item: I give & beq. to my grddau Mary Jane Dawson one shilling & no more of my estate.

Item: I give & beq. to my grddau Cealia Dawson $40 payable when she arrives to the age of 18 & no more.

Item: I give & beq. to my grndson Zebedial Dawson $40 to be paid when he arrives to the age of twenty-one.

Item: I give & beq. to my grndson William Dawson $40 to be paid when he arrives to age of twenty-one.

Item: I give & beq. to my grddau Sarah Dawson $40 to be pd when she arrives to the age of eighten.

Item: I give & beq. to my grdson Samuel Dawson $40 to be pd when he arrives to age of twenty-one.

Item: I give & beq. all the residue of my real & personal estate after my just debts are paid to be equally divided between my daughter, Ann Dawson, and my daughter Mary Dawson.

Item: I leave my friend John Booth executor of this my last will & testament and I do herby in witness where of I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 10th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & nineteen. Signed Zebdial Dawson (seal)

Signed & delivered by the said Zebedial Dawson as his last will & testament in presents of each have here unto subscribed names: Charles Todd, Henry Todd, and John Booth.

Sussex County 21st September 1819, before me Phillip Kollock Registrar apt. to Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration for the county afs. appeared Charles Todd & Henry Todd two of the subscribing witnesses to the within will who being duly sworn ...testator Zededial Dawson declare the same to be his last will & testatment & they together with John Booth subscibers the same as witnesses in presence of the said testator & at his request. With rent of land for 1830 9 gal brandy $3.70, 6 stacks of hay $8.67, 16 Bushels Oats $4.80, 3 bushels rye $1.40, 4 bush. wheat 4.65, 63 bush corn $38.43.

Total 1st Jan 1830: $558.58. Account exhibited to Registrar 7th June 1830 by John Booth.

Account of Payments $294.06 - Balance Due Estate $264.51.

July 12, 1830: Payments to Paul Conaway for repairs of Home at Nowrthwest Fork Bridge ... $5.00

Sept 27, 1830: Paid Edward G. Shaw for part of his Mother Sarah Shaw last legacy ... $28.24

Sept 27, 1830: Piad Edward G Shaw attorney  for Joseph Shaw  part of his Mother's legacy...  $28.24

Oct 8, 1830: paid Zachariah Hatfield's tax... $4.16

Nov 16, 1830: paid Prudence Dawson for legacy 1830... $40.

Feb 7, 1831: paid William Dawson acct for share of his father's William Dawson estate upon which the said Zedbial was exec. ... $84.68

Apr 2, 1831: paid William Dawson a legacy from Zebdial Dawson's estate ... $40.
